Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

The American Canadian Tour has announced a preliminary 12 race schedule for the 2008 Late Model Stock Car Season.

A completely redesigned championship format will be used in 2008.  A diverse slate of twelve events at seven speedways in the
northeastern United States and Canada will comprise the schedule, while also giving race teams several options during the course

of the April-to-September campaign. The ACT driver and owner championships will be decided using the best ten results for each

individual during the 12-race season, thus giving teams the benefit of dropping their two worst outings of the year.

Veteran Dwayne Lanphear of Morrisville returned to Victory
Lane at Barre's Thunder Road for the first time in six years with an
impressive outside lane run in the 50-lap feature on Thursday night.

Lanphear battled with Wolcott's Marcel Gravel, Northfield rookie Chip

Grenier, and Essex Junction veteran Dave Whitcomb throughout the
event. Lanphear took the lead from Grenier on lap eight, but surrendered it to
Gravel at the half-way point.  A lap 39 caution period brought Lanphear

outside Gravel for the restart, and the former Vermont Milk Bowl Champion

used the higher, faster groove to his advantage.  Whitcomb made a late charge

past Gravel, then pressured Lanphear for the win but ran out of time.  Gravel held on
to finish third.
Montpelier's Dave Pembroke had a productive night, moving from second place

in the Thunder Road standings into an unofficial lead of 34 points with
just one event remaining.
Pembroke's main rivals for the title, Jamie Fisher of Shelburne and
Williamstown's Cris Michaud, suffered their worst finishes of the season in 20th

and 17th respectively.

Michael Moore of East Haven took his first career Allen Lumber Street Stock
feature win,
Rain washed the NAPA Tiger Sportsman 35-lap feature away after five
laps were completed.

Officials from Barre's Thunder Road International Speedbowl have disqualified Late Model
driver Brian Hoar of Williston from his apparent second-place finish in the Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day
Classic on Monday. Following post-race technical inspection, Hoar's #45 car was found to
be in violation of the Koni sealed shock absorber rule, which is also in use on the American-Canadian Tour
championship series.  Although the Koni shocks on Hoar's car were not modified internally, an external
modification was determined to be an alteration to the strict ACT Koni shock rule. Hoar and the team have been

stripped of all championship points and purse money earned in the Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic and placed

on a three-month suspension from competition at Thunder Road. The #45 team has also been handed a $4,000 fine

and will be on technical probation for all ACT Late Model Tour and ACT Castrol events for the remainder of the 2007 season.

Dave Pembroke took the lead for good on lap 88 and went on to win the Memorial Day Classic on Monday afternoon at Barre's Thunder Road. Brian Hoard finished second. Michaud was third, followed by John Donahue, Jay Laquerre, Trampas Demers, Joe Becker, Pete Fectau, Shawn Fleury and Chip Grenier.

Tom Therrien won the Tiger Sportsman feature. Mike Martin took the street stock win and Jared Henry won the Junkyard Warrior finale.

Veteran racer Joey Laquerre passed Nick Sweet for the lead on lap 58 and then held him off through an exciting final 42 laps to win the Casella Waste Management 100 for the Tiger Sportsman cars on Sunday afternoon at Barre's Thunder Road.  The two drivers tangled on the final lap, allowing Craig Bushey to sneak around Sweet for the second place finish. Sweet got third.

George Commo Speaks With Merchants Bank 150 Winner Scott Payea

What should be an exiting and unpredictable American Canadian Tour stock car racing season got off to an unexpected start on Saturday afternoon in Maine. Veteran racer Randy Potter was the surprise winner of the season opener at the Oxford Plains Speedway.  Potter started on the outside pole and took the lead on the second lap. He then held on against all challengers to take home the win. There were only two caution flags in an amazingly clean opening day event, especially amazing since 52 cars took the green flag. Defending ACT champion Jean Paul Cyr came home second, followed by young Joey Polewarczyk, Doug Coombs and David Avery. Chris Michaud, Mike Rowe, Travis Adams, Roger Brown and Ryan Nolin rounded out the top ten.

The ACT will return to action next Sunday with the season opener at Barre's Thunder Road ... the Merchants Bank 150.

Yet another former American-Canadian Tour racing legend has announced his intention to come back and race for the 2007 ACT Championship. Jamie Aube, the Ferrisburg native who was a fixture on the tour in the '80's moved to the NASCAR North Circuit following his years with the ACT. His best year with the ACT was 1987, when he won three races and took down 15 top five finishes, ending the year a close second to Robbie Crouch in the standings. Ironically, Crouch announced his intention to return to the tour just a couple of months ago.

In '87 Aube won his first of two Oxford 250 titles. He went on to win three straight NASCAR North titles in the late '80's and early '90's. he continued to race with NASCAR North through the '90's and also joined the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series earlier in this decade.

Aube, Crouch and another former multi-time ACT champion, Brian Hoar, will be amomng a huge field of drivers when the tour opens the 2007 season at Oxford, Maine on April 27th.

Well, first it was multi-time ACT Champion Brian Hoar coming back to try to fight off the challenge to his ACT records by current Tour hot shoe Jean Paul Cyr. Well guess what ... he's not the only old champ returning in 2007. Six-time champion Robbie Crouch of South Burlington will return to the Late Model Series in search of a seventh championship title in 2007.  Known as the “Tampa Tornado” during his heyday, Crouch last raced in July, 1997. Crouch will drive a car owned by Dave Storey of Plaistow, NH. Along with Crouch’s six American-Canadian Tour titles he’s a record four time winner of Vermont’s most prestigious race, the Milk Bowl at Barre’s Thunder Road.  In all, he has over 80 ACT wins in a career that spans over 15 seasons.

Interview With Robbie Crouch About His Return to Racing

The American Canadian Tour is putting together an exciting schedule for the 2007stock car racing season, and the old veterans are returning in droves. The silly season has become an exciting season for long time Vermont stock car racing fans, as four former ACT and Thunder road racing stars have announced their intention to return to the American Canadian Tour in 2007.

Second generation driver Kip Stockwell is the latest to make the announcement. Stockwell has spent his recent years running with the NASCAR North series, as has former ACT Champion Brian Hoar who announced his intention to return to the ACT several weeks ago.

Former Thunder road champion Tracie Bellerose announced at the end of November she will come out of injury forced retirement to run in 2007, as will former Thunder Road and ACT runner Dwayne Lanphear.

After a ten year absence, the American-Canadian Tour (ACT) will be returning to Canadian racing on a regular basis in 2007.  With the recent announcement of an ACTion Super Series race at Ontario’s Kawartha Speedway, and the finalization of negotiations with Quebec race teams and promoters north of the border, the Vermont-based group has announced it will manage and administer the very popular and successful Quebec Late Model Série in 2007.

Quebec racing is deeply rooted in northern New England stock car history.  “La Belle Province” has produced many notable competitors, including the great Jean-Paul Cabana, André Many, Marcel Goddard, and Claude Aubin, among others, who were mainstays at the former Catamount Stadium (Milton, VT) and Thunder Road (Barre, VT) in the 1960s.  Quebec racing at Vermont tracks and at Maine’s Oxford Plains Speedway continued with Quebec City’s Langis Caron, while Claude Leclerc and Roger Laperle from the Montreal area, and a host of drivers, were among the foundation of the ACT Pro Stock Tour years later.

Nearly 30 “new breed” Quebec racers and teams attending a recent organizational meeting in Drummondville, Qc learned that ACT will promote and manage the Quebec Late Model Série next year.  ACT president Tom Curley said, “We feel very lucky to be able to work with many old friends and some new young talent.  Donald Forte, in cooperation with the Quebec promoters did a very good job establishing this touring series.  Our job is to help make it grow and have a lot of fun along the way.  The Quebec Late Model Series fits our regional business plan perfectly.  Universal rules, inexpensive race costs and affordable ticket prices will be our goal in Quebec, just like in New England.”

ACT has formed a 12-race schedule for the coming season that will compete at five venues.  Included on the card will be two very popular ACTion Super Series events.  The Series will open at Ralph Nason’s Autodrome Montmagny Speedway, a 3/8ths mile high-banked oval in May and close with the Cari-all 300 at the historic Autodrome St-Eustache near Montreal, a 4/10ths mile oval owned by former champion, Claude Aubin.  Also on the docket will be stops at Autodrome Circuit Chaudiere, a track that ACT’s Curley consulted on, which is a favorite of fans and race teams. The 5/8ths mile Autodrome Ste-Croix, located near Quebec City, will host a pair of Quebec Late Model Série events as well as an ACTion Super Series race.  Ontario’s Capital City Speedway, which has also introduced the ACT Late Model rules package, will hold the lone event outside the province.  The second ACTion Super Series race will be at Aubin’s Autodrome St-Eustache.
